Ever since it opened in 2010, Farmville Detention Center (also known as ICA-Farmville) has been a site of human rights abuses against detained immigrants. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the Free Them All VA Coalition, of which the Legal Aid Justice Center is a member, has been organizing to shut down the detention center with the goal of releasing those detained there. Read more about the campaign and why the detention center must be shut down here!

The City of Farmville is seriously considering ending its contract with ICE and ICA (Immigration Centers of America) on March 29th, which would be a huge step towards closing ICA-Farmville!

On September 13th, two days before a previous contract was set to expire, the Free Them All Virginia coalition mobilized more than 80 people to the city council meeting demanding the contract not be renewed. The city council felt the presence of the community and voted unanimously to have the town manager investigate the impact of withdrawing from the contract.  The contract was then extended, two more times, the first one until only September 30th, and the second and current one until March 29th, which means we have an extra opportunity to mobilize to end the contract once and for all!

Take action below to contact the Farmville Town Council, Mayor and Vice Mayor to end the town’s contract with ICE and ICA! Please customize the messages below to reflect if you are a Farmville resident and any organizational affiliations you may have, as well as anything else you’d like to say.
